About the Publisher

The primary and driving force behind the ICP books and the new Tall Corn Book imprint is Steve Semken. I have authored four books, edited three others, been included in four anthologies, was picked as the the Writer in Residence at the Island Institute in Sitka, Alaska. As well, I sponsor and organize the annual Voices From The Prairie event with Humanities Iowa. This event morphed out of my early days of organizing the Harvest Lecture series. I’d formed the Standing By Words Center to do this, although these days there’s too much to do and the SBWC is taking a non-deserved hiatus. It is safe to say I have self-taught and discovered most things having to do with publishing since 1993. The same could be said of my writing which is not the most standard ever dun. My debut novel Pick Up Stick City : Restoration Fiction was published by Rivers Bend Press in Minnesota. As well, a second book, The Great Blues, is a creative nonfiction piece on Great Blue Herons in Kansas. This book was published by the Woodley Press, Washburn University, Topeka, Kansas and picked as a Notable Book of Kansas. Currently I am working on a collection of short stories on mushrooms, the supernatural in local places and the value of living memory. I take a lot of pride in my efforts to be a good publisher for “my” authors. FMI: see Books By Publisher link.
